Let's Get Political with Baby Tees by Uncommonly Cute!

Politicscollage Uncommonly Cute has been one of my favorite lines of funny baby t-shirts for a few years now!  With the 2008 Presidential election nearly in full swing, I thought I'd let you all know about the darling Lil' Democrat and Lil' Republican Tees for sale at Polka Dot Whale!  We can hardly keep them in stock as they make a great new baby gift for a politico friend or make a statement with your own little one.

Personally, I take my politics pretty seriously and was so excited to take Emme with me to vote for this year's primary....regardless of who you were rooting for, you gotta admit that it's pretty amazing to take your baby girl in to vote in an election that could have resulted in the 1st Woman President...Anything is possible Baby Girl!

Here is Emme at the polling place, where they gave her the "baby star treatment"...

Tralala...all the Sugar & Spice you can handle!

One of the cutest lines of infant & toddler clothing for girls has to be by Tralala Inc.!  The gorgeous floral prints they introduce each season are classic, vintage, frilly and French as can be.  I just love it and so does Emme.  She loves to lounge in her 2-piece Cami Playwear sets by Tralala and our newborn baby girl friends look just scrumptious in the 2-piece Kimono Layette sets by Tralala!  The summer collection is fresh on the page at Polka Dot Whale.com and ready to snap up....hurry, Tralala clothing for baby girls flies off the shelf and you'll be so sad you missed out!  Ranging in price from $39-$44, Tralala outfits are the perfect baby shower gift.  We just LOVE how they coordinate with Jamie Rae Hats & Headbands, too!  I can't wait to see what prints and styles they have brewing for the Fall and Holiday season...stay tuned....

Play.Sleep.Love. with Zoobie Pets!

Zoobiecollage The land is abuzz with raves about the latest plush toy/blanket/pillow craze...Zoobie Pets!  I discovered Zoobie Pets at the Baby Celebration L.A. a few weeks back and Emme has been lovin' up her Hada the Hippo ever since.  Zoobie Pets embody an innovative and newly patented 3-in-1 concept...each pet is a plush toy, a soft pillow and comfy blanket all in one--the perfect childhood companion!  The more I learn about Zoobie Pets, it has become clear that it isn't just the munchkins that can't get enough of their Zoobie Pets...

Mvzoobie I stumbled across a blog post by Meredith Viera of The View & Today Show fame just the other day.  Apparently a fan gifted her with a Zoobie Mashaka the Monkey a while back and she intended to take it home to her tween daughter, Lily, but instead, fell asleep in the car, cuddled up with that Zoobie Mashaka the Monkey and has lived to tell about it.  It's now her go-to gift for friends with babies and little ones, including Today Show co-host Natalie Morale's 4-year-old son, whom Viera gifted with a Zoobie Jafaru the Giraffe!!

A fun feature is the animals' signature faces are so squishy since they are made with micro-beads and the body is the softest velour-like texture that make these plush toys some of the squishiest & cuddliest around.  The fleece blanket inside the pillow-like body is also incredibly soft and snuggly.  I highly recommend Zoobie Pets for travel as your little one is guaranteed to have a familiar friend, a soft pillow and a warm blanket anytime that his Zoobie Pet is in tow...Emme will be toting her Hippo on all of our summer excursions and visits to Grandma!  All components make for one of the most unique gifts for babies and big kids that I have seen in a while! At a loss for what to send your nephew for his birthday or your niece for her First Communion?  Send a Zoobie Pet today....at just $34, these adorable gifts are a steal!

Emmeloveszoobie

Emme has been struggling with a little cold and her Zoobie Pet has been a real comfort.  Here, my sick baby snuggles her Zoobie Pet this morning while she watched Sesame Street on TV...Notice her squeezing Hada the Hippo's ever-so-squishable face!

Rootin' Tootin' Cowgirl.....Radio Flyer!

Emmeradioflyer_9 One of Baby Emme's favorite First Christmas gifts is her Radio Flyer Classic Rock & Bounce Pony

for infants & toddlers! It is a  really fun find and I think it makes a great First Birthday Gift, Baby's First Christmas Gift of even new baby  gift...I can totally picture one at the next posh celebrity baby shower!Radio Flyer Classic Rock & Bounce Pony It's all the fun of a traditional Radio Flyer Jumping Horse for older toddlers & kids and a rocking horse rolled up into one.  With the added bonus that is completely safe for these little ones.  Low to the ground, rubbery bands for the bouncing action and plastic runners for the rocking action.  She has just recently really gotten the hang of how to make that pony rock & bounce and likes for me to sing the Lone Ranger theme song while she does it.  She looks so cute bobbing up and down that I love to fulfill her tiny demands!

We all recall our favorite little red wagon from childhood and thanks to Radio Flyer there are classic and wildly updated versions of that Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon to choose from today for today's babies and big kids.  Not to mention fun accessories like sunshades, padded seats and cooler packs!  Nana picked up a new Radio Flyer Red Wagon this past Christmas and I adore the picks of her pulling Emme and her 2-year-old cousin, Russell, around the house in the Christmas jammies!  Check them out....

A good selection of Radio Flyer Wagons, Jumping Horses and Trikes can be hard to find...the best I've come across is Red Wagons, where you'll find the entire collection of Radio Flyer toys for babies, toddlers & big kids!

Fun in the Sun with the best Sun Protection Products for Babies!

With summer fast-approaching , I've been on a mission to gather up all of the necessary products to make time spent in the sun as much fun and guilt-free as possible this year!  Mother's of today are charged with the extraordinary task of protecting our little ones from even a single sunburn.... with innocent summers in the sun resulting in wrinkles, sunspots and melanoma!  Read more about sun protection for kids here...

With all the information we have these days about the dangers of overexposure to the sun, starting in childhood, we really do owe it to our kids to give them a safe and healthy start.  So, I'm here to share with you, some of my favorite finds for summer sun protection (and sun protection all year 'round!)

Gapsuit_4Gymboreesuit_3

1)  The "rash guard" style bathing suits for babies and toddlers that offer 50+ SPF Protection are a genius solution for the beach and pool.  Not only are you spared wrestling your girls into strappy fitted bathing suits and trying to get the sunscreen spread evenly in spite of those same straps, boys aren't left with their entire upper body exposed to those harmful rays.  Emme has 2 of these style suits and each has a swim diaper and short-sleeve top.  This is also great for swim diaper changes (see above comments about wresting baby girl in and out of strappy bathing suit;)).

Find this Tropical Rash Guard Set for Baby Girl at Gymboree and this Rash Guard for Boys at Baby Gap!

Hannahay_copy 2)  A great floppy sunhat is indispensable for Mommy & Baby!  Emme won't always wear a hat, but I keep trying, because it goes so far in terms of protecting her eyes, face, sensitive scalp and chest & shoulders!  I love the selection of sun hat colors found at Hanna Andersson.  You're sure to find a sun hat match for every bathing suit and outfit and they are currently offering a special price of $10 on many colors!

Babysilkwipes

3)  Another fantastic sun product new to the market is sunscreen in a wipe formulation!  I had purchased a few different brands and hadn't used either until a couple of weeks ago.  I'm going to pick up more the very next time I see them!  There is no chance of accidentally squirting baby in the eye with a glob of sunscreen, no chance of baby getting a hold of the bottle and making a mess or (heaven forbid) ingesting some and no chance of sunscreen leaking all over your beach or diaper bag!  The wipes are very easy to use AND in spite of my fears to the contrary, really do cover one entire baby with one wipe. I have been equally happy with the usability and the sun protection offered by these two brands, at opposing ends of the price spectrum!  Pick up Baby Blanket Brand SPF 45+ wipes at Babies R Us and get 6 for $7.99.  Baby Silk SPF 30+ wipes may be purchased at Right Start, 3 for $7.99.  In case you don't already know, the wonderful Baby Silk product line by MD Moms is worth every penny--it's pediatrician-tested and a favorite of all the big name celebrity mamas we know & love!

Onestep 4)  Another modern convenience is that every conceivable baby gear item for the beach or pool now comes with a sunshade canopy!  The Baby Spring Float from One Step Ahead is both fun & functional.  Mama loves a good cabana and now baby can enjoy a mini cabana all her own... check out the Sun Stop'r Deluxe Kwik Cabana, also from One Step Ahead.

------------------------------------------------------

Emme can sit in her floaty all day long in the pool, so with a sunhat, canopy, rash guard bathing suit & super protective sunscreen wipes, I think we pretty much have sun protection covered for this summer!

Leave us comment and let us know what you and your little ones do to keep cool and stay safe in the summer sunshine!

Hot Spring Slings by Polkadot Papoose!

I am a self-proclaimed Professional Babywearer and have to share the newest line of slings I have come across.  First, I must explain the situation that I feel qualifies me as a professional baby wearer.  We live in a very urban location, which requires me to regularly park my car blocks from my home and tote home Miss Emme and anything I've collected throughout the day's outings (i.e. groceries, diapers, shopping bags, packages, etc.).  The stroller is not an option because there are a couple of flights of stairs at the end of the trek home.  Friends and family are amazed at what I can accomplish at the end of the day, carrying Emme in a sling, lugging the aforementioned items, diaper bag strapped across me, marching several blocks and up the stairs, all while talking to them on my cell phone.  Today I was talking to my mom during the trek and called myself an "Urban Warrior."  She suggested I post about it on my blog!  It is only by the grace of the baby sling that I am able to accomplish so much, all while keeping my daughter close!

I love all types of slings (and really have my eye on a Mei Tai for my next sling purchase) but I can't get enough of a good ol' baby pouch....enter Polkadot Papoose!   With a Polkadot Papoose, you take your measurements to be sure of a perfect fit.  There is no tugging at rings for constant adjustments, no extra fabric you don't know what to do with, no fancy knot-tying and no problem looking chic while toting your precious little one.  What more can you ask for in a baby pouch sling?  To learn more about slings visit: The Baby Wearer for tips on how to use a sling, various carrying positions and the wondrous benefits of babywearing for mother and child.

The most fabulous feature to the Polkadot Papoose is the use of fantastic designer fabrics by Amy Butler.  If I had to choose my favorite fabric designers, Amy Butler and Heather Bailey, of www.hellomynameisheather.com blogging fame, tie for first. I LOVE fancy fabrics and in today's fabric world, I could spend hours pouring over fabric swatches online and pining for a sewing machine!  (Note: If my husband is reading, I'd like him to know that am wishing for a sewing machine for Mother's Day...yeah, yeah, it is contrary to my deepest feminist ideals and speaks directly to the anti-feminist tradition of keeping women at home and pregnant, but next time I'm pregnant and at home, I'd sure be lookin' good in a maternity smock I sewed myself...don't you think? :)  In the meantime, having a Polkadot Papoose will satisfy my desire for designer fabrics and superior craftsmanship!

Huddy Buddy Onesies & Tee's for your little buddy!

Huddybuddy_2 I just came across one of the cutest lines of onesies and tee's for babies and toddlers when I discovered Huddy Buddy!  Their humorous designs are funny and adorable at the same time.  Emme has the "Play It Loud" guitar with wings style (my personal favorite) and the Cupcake Shop and Poodle Boutique tees.  There seems to be a style for every taste.  And, I've got to say that Huddy Buddy designs some of cutest tee's for boys out there.  I usually seem to prefer the girl styles from most lines, but I am equally fond of the Huddy Buddy styles for boys, not to mention the unique sets for twins!

Pretty Pinafores from Lassie Girl!

My must-have of the week...a pretty little pinafore from Lassie Girl.  I spotted these pinafores on Lassie's Girl's Etsy shop a few months back and have been coveting this Oilily pattern for Emme!  Here she is all decked out in this wild European pink & blue pinafore.  Handmade by Ashley at Lassie Girl, each piece is carefully sewn to order for your little girl.  At just $24, these pinafores are a one-of-kind piece at a bargain price.  I know you'll cherish your little one's pinafore as much as I do.  They are easy-on and easy-off with the cross back styling.  Perfect to dress up a t-shirt and jeans if you are running out to dinner or to an impromptu playdate!  I adore the fact that the Lassie Girl pinafores are reversible.  Change the style with your mood, or hide that banana smear from lunch by flipping to the reverse side and saving the day!

Mini Tag Blankies from Tag Trendie are a hit with babies!

Tagtrendie

One of my favorite sources for Tag Blankies, regular snuggly security blankets sized right for little fingers and trimmed with lots of little ribbon loops to keep those fingers busy, is Tag Trendie by Karen Radtke.  Everybody knows that babies go straight for the tags on new toys, clothes and blankets, leaving you thinking, "Why didn't I just give her basket of old tags instead of spending a fortune on this basket of new toys?"  Well, you can have a new little treat for baby that includes a gaggle of tiny little tags to keep Baby entertained, and won't cost you a fortune. These tag blankies start at just $12.50.  I tucked a Tag Trendie blankie into Emme's stocking and she is quite smitten.  She hasn't taken too much interest in baby blankies up until now, but she loves to play with all the little tags and I love the fun & funky fabrics and ribbons.  It's oh so "trendie"....

Tag Trendie's fabulous designer is Karen Radtke.  Karen is a mom, just like you and me, and is able to test out her designs on her own 9 month old baby, making them a sure winner with your baby, too.  Her professional background in high-end interior design is what gives her such a great eye for fabric and ribbon combinations.  Thanks Karen for an awesome product for babies and their mommies!  Check out the endless fabric and ribbon combinations.  There is one to suit every taste & style for boy and girl babies.  Did I mention that Karen's track record for shipping on time (in an adorable black & white pattern packaging) is stellar!  So what's the wait, , Get shopping...

New Year's Resolution for Baby: Healthy Eating with Happy Baby!

Ghblogotype We rang in 2008 with a relaxing getaway to Palm Springs with the Nana and just got back to the hustle and bustle of life and work...uggghhh!  However, I was a actually little excited to get back into our daily routine at home with baby Emme after the holidays.  I've worked Emme up to sitting in the high chair twice a day and attempting to feed her.  For the perpetual nurser, baby food and the high chair can be the enemy, but I've collected some tools that help to get the job done.  My New Year's resolution for Emme is to continue my efforts to feed her healthy, fresh, organic foods through the next year of her life.  The baby food that fits the bill in our house is Happy Baby food

Gcubesindex2 Found in the frozen food section at Whole Foods and other natural foods stores, it come in convenient little frozen cubes in plastic trays.  I can almost pretend that I whipped it up myself.  And, I have found that with Emme's finicky refusal to take in any more than one ounce per feeding of solid foods, it is actually quite economical.  I have thrown away the unused portion of four ounce baby food containers more times than I can count in the past 3 months.  These one ounce frozen cubes are just the thing and nothing goes to waste.  Much to my surprise, Emme's favorite is Grrreat Greens, a combination of mango and spinach.  When she puts her finger in the bowl, then sticks it up her nose, it's not a pretty sight, but seeing her actually eating and enjoying it is the most beautiful sight I have seen!

What also makes Happy Baby food a favorite of mine is the endorsement they've received from Dr. Sears.  A household favorite pediatrician of mine and millions of others, check out the Sears family pediatric website at www.askdrsears.com.   In fact, I was on their website today looking up the mysterious rash that appeared on Emme's legs during the holiday weekend.  Doesn't seem to bother her, but those little red bumps sure are bothering me... ;)  Anyway, Dr. Sears has helped the folks at Happy Baby to develop some new baby foods that include chicken, turkey and salmon and some dry baby cereals, all including DHA.  It doesn't get better than that when it comes to baby food!  Oh, and, did I mention that Emme nearly refuses to eat anything but Happy BabyRead more about the cool chicks behind Happy Baby Food by clicking here...

Foodprocessor Now, when I do go so far as to whip up some baby food myself, I like to use my Dex Baby Food Processor.  It really makes a smooth puree, in a baby-size portion, no less.  It's easy to clean and stores away much easier than a full-size food processor.  Mine was a baby shower gift from my dear friend Nora and I am proud to say that it whipped up the perfect banana puree for Emme's first meal of solids this past summer.  The Baby Food Processor is great for fresh fruits and veggies or organic fruits and veggies already diced and bagged in the frozen food section.  These are known to be a better option than canned ones or jarred baby food.

Covershot_2 As Emme starts to venture into the world of "people food", I plan to put my brand-spankin' new copy of Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious cookbook to use.  A favorite Christmas gift from the Nana.  I've got my eye on the Potato Soup, Green Eggs, and Chocolate Chip Muffins.  I just might have to start "taste-testing" some of the kid-friendly recipes before Emme is ready for them;)  You can check out some of her recipes on her website, www.deceptivelydelicious.com or on www.oprah.com.  It really is a fun cookbook with lots of great tips and tricks for those charged with the feeding of children!  By the way, Jessica's book is 30% off right now at Borders Books!

Candybib To top off all this info about baby feeding, I must include the source for my favorite baby bibs!  The bib can be the bane of the mother's existence....trying so hard to keep baby reasonably clean at mealtime.  After ruining a few darling fabric bibs by throwing them into the laundry basket crusted with food (that innocent glob of sweet potatoes turns to mold & mildew, ladies!), dear old Nana clued me in to wash them off in the sink, even scrubbing them with the sponge when necessary and hanging them over the sink or draping them in the top drawer of the dish washer to dry between feedings.  I keep a couple in rotation because they are never dry in time for the next feeding.  I've got to say that I am a big fan of the whimsical cloth bibs from Colby Lane Designs because they are ultra-absorbent, fun to look at and more comfy for baby than plastic.  I've got several from Colby Lane Designs and they are truly my favorites!  Pick one up for your babe today for just $8 or $9 depending on the designer fabrics and fuzzy chenille backing.  The two sets of snaps mean these bibs have serious staying power in the hands of a toddler. The bibs and other baby accessories are handmade by this family-owned business, just like we prefer to shop from.  The price and quality of Colby Lane Designs simply cannot be beat!

Until next time, Emme and I are wishing you a wonderful, happy & healthy 2008!

If Mom's Mission is Organziation, Her Weapon is MomAgenda!

Momagendalogo I am "Mom"...keeper of the family social calendar, maker of appointments, planner of parties, caretaker of the kiddo and the pets.  The best tool I have found to help me get-it-together and keep-it-together is the MomAgenda.  After two years away from a 9-5 working-woman's lifestyle and 2 missed pick-up apointments at Dinner My Way, I decided it was time to get a planner.  I have carried a planner since 7th grade, where as the perfectionista teacher's pet, I jotted down every assignment and lunch hour club meeting to ensure I'd never miss a beat and safeguard my perfectionista future.  However, leaving that 9-5 world to start my own business, I threw caution to the wind and have since been searching the word "calendar" on Google every time I needed to know the date.  Now that I've got Emme and a growing business, this just won't do.  I've been browsing for the perfect Mom Organizer and came across MomAgenda a few months back.  I purchased a MomAgenda at Paper Source back in August for my best friend-turned-Mommy-Friend, Laura, and have been pining for one since.  Well, now I've got it...

Desktopopen My MomAgenda is a beautiful, silky bubblegum pink that makes me feel so "Mommy-fied" I can hardly stand it!  The day it arrived in the mail, I immediately filled in appointments, holiday parties, birthdays, social commitments and an upcoming trip to Palm Springs.   Filling in my planner felt like coming home to an old friend.  How did I get through the last two years without an agenda?  I can see that MomAgenda will be keeping my family organized for years to come.  It's one very classy desktop organizer and even has a grown-up satin ribbon to keep my place.

My Favorite Features of the MomAgenda Products:

1)The sassy cover colors are yummy grown-up versions of little girl favorites in pink, purple, blue, lime and chocolate...not to mention the elegant silky texture!

2) The Monthly views are all together at the front so you can see the whole year at a glance without flipping through.  The Daily views have a special spot for each member of the family (customize to suit your own family configuration) so it doesn't get all jumbled up and there is even a spot for "dinner"--that nagging daily task that only a mom would realize was a big enough deal to put in a planner!

3) Lots of room for notes in the back and special pages for Birthdays, Gift Tracking, Party Planning, Vacation Planning and list of books, music, restaurants, wines...everything you might usually jot down somewhere and forget about;)

4)  The address book in the back comes out so you can put it in next year's planner without writing it all out again!

5)  There is also a Mini version of the desktop planner great for Mommies on the Go.  I find that anything I take out of the house is at risk of getting lost, so the desktop planner works for me:)

6)  The coordinating Kitchen Folio is great for keeping together forms and papers needed for school-age and daycare kiddos.

7)  Adorable little notepads for "Things To Do" and "Babysitter Info" are actually useful.  There are lots of flashy little Babysitter notepad-type of things out there, but this is one I'd actually use!

I'm not the only fan of MomAgenda...Check out the buzz in the press and a review from a fellow Mommy Blogger at So Called Me!

Tiny Revolutionary Babywear--The Revolution Starts at Home!

Index_logo1Not just any old baby tee... I immediately contacted the ladies at Tiny Revolutionary when I came across their collection of T-shirts about a week ago!   The graphics and sayings on these tee's are just what revolutionary Mommies are looking for.  See for yourself by checking out www.tinyrevolutionary.com.

Now that I've got a t-shirt in hand, I can see that Tiny Revolutionary tee's are "love at first touch."  If it weren't enough that the tee's "Speak the Truth", they are the quality that Mommies and Babies crave.  They are just what they say they are, "100% Sweatshop Free, 100% of the Softest Cotton You'll Ever Feel, 100% Pre-Shrunk, 100% Awesome!"  I'd like to add to this list, 100% Creative and 100% unique!  For those looking for some babywear that stands out from the crowd, check out the duds from Tiny Revolutionary.com

Graphics that will make you laugh (and cry)...

The genius behind Tiny Revolutionary comes in the form of 2 Mommies in LOVE with their baby girl.
BreeAnne Clowdus and Courtney Howe are savvy, creative and revolutionary in the way they live and the way they do business. I can totally relate to BreenAnne and Courtney...a passion for social justice, a passion for their woman-owned business and that "business" about being in LOVE with your baby girl.  Did you see the latest pictures of my baby, Emme?  Okay, so back to Tiny Revolutionary:) Click here to see who else is buzzzzing about Tiny Revolutionary!

We are Giddy for Giddy Giddy Hair Clippies!

Giddygiddy It's pretty easy to develop an obsession with infant hair accessories these days.  There are seemingly endless choices in the world of baby hair clips and all are pretty darn cute. But, many require some pretty luscious baby locks to stay clipped in and not be lost in carseat/stroller/carrier/diaper bag oblivion the first time your baby wear it out of the house!  To the untrained eye, Emme appears to have very little hair.  However, her Mommy knows that she has just enough hair to wear a Giddy Giddy baby hair clip everyday of the week!  We've tried many other types of hair clips and many other have worked marginally well, but Giddy Giddy hair clips work exceptionally well...and we're not just saying that!  Emme actually wears a Giddy Giddy hair clip all the time.  They look so cute that I'll go out of my way to develop an outfit that perfectly suits one of her hair accessories.  Giddy Giddy hair clips were designed by real moms and are just what you are looking for when you envision fun, whimsical and crafty looking hair accessories for your baby girl!

Click here to Read more about the real moms behind Giddy Giddy...

Just this weekend, we spent the afternoon at the California State University, Long Beach, Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.  Emme looked super cute in her Mini Boden polka dot t-shirt and corduroy "baggies" and we pulled the look together with a Giddy Giddy flower clippie in red and blue.  See the cuteness for yourself...

Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers on The View with Elisabeth Hasselbeck!!!

Viewlogo

We knew we weren't the only major fans of Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers (aka Hooter Hiders) and knowBebelogo we know that Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View is a major fan, too.  On Tuesday, October 23rd, Elisabeth will host a Baby Shower on The View and give away Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers to expectant Mommies!  The Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover is one of our all time favorite baby shower gifts.

Bebemama I have the Bebe Au Lait in a few different prints to suit my mood (or just in case it has been a while since I forced myself to do laundry).  Click here to view the collection of prints!  A snazzy little feature I adore is the terry cloth patch in the bottom inside corner.  I never seem to have a burp cloth handy, but I can alway find my Bebe Au Lait and grab that corner in a pinch:)

Elisabeth personally selected the Bebe Au Lait "Blomst" and "Soft Spot" patterns to be one of her Top 10 "Must Haves" because they are chic and also versatile as nursing covers, as a sunshine shield for use with baby carriers such as and more. It's the only cover with the patent-pending rigid neckline for full view of baby, a built-in terry cloth section for clean up and small item storage pocket.

Bebe au Lait was started in 2004 by husband and wife team Claire and Ronnie Ekelund. Ronnie's career as a professional soccer player often meant that Claire was attending very public events. When the couple welcomed their second child she wanted to be able to breastfeed her newborn at the games in privacy, without missing any of the game, but she had no accessory with which to cover up. She immediately began working on a solution: a cover that allows eye contact with the baby yet supreme coverage

Shop a great selection of Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers at www.PolkaDotWhale.com where covers are just $35.00 with free giftwrap and a free ground shipping offer!

Rock Your Baby to Sleep to Rock Me Baby Records!

Rockmelogo_2 As I post tonight, Susie Tallman's beautiful soprano voice echoes melodiously through our home...  I'm just pleased as punch to share with my readers that nothing soothes Emme to sleep these days like her lullaby CD's from Susie Tallman's collection of Rock Me Baby Records!  Works like a charm for naps and bedtime.  My sister played the same music for my little nephew and raved about it long before I ever took a listen myself.  Susie gave me CD samples for our shop when I ordered the CD's for Polka Dot Whale and while I was pregnant, I started to give them a run through every afternoon.  And, let me tell you, these CD's aren't just for babies!!! They are soothing for the whole family and create a peaceful ambiance in your home, office or car--wherever you need that kind of peace during the day or night.  We sell them all at Polka Dot Whale for just $15 each!
Rockmerecordsmusiccds

The Rock Me Baby Records Collection Includes:

Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams

Lullabies for Sleepy Eyes

Classical Baby

Children's Songs

Classic Nursery Rhymes

Now, because Emme was loving the lullaby CD's so much, I decided to give the Chidlren's Songs CD a try, thinking she was probably too young for that.  Boy was I wrong!  Emme lights up like a Christmas Tree when I turn on the music ever afternoon while I pack boxes.  She  can't enough of classic kid's tunes like "The Ants Go Marching," "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain," and "Apples & Bananas."

Susie Tallman trained in voice at UCLA (my alma mater--Go Bruins!) bringing your baby the very best that lullaby CD's have to offer.  As a soprano vocalist myself, I don't have a single complaint about the sweet sound of Susie's clear and soothing voice. Susie Tallman & Friends will bring classic lullabies and  nursery rhymes from around the world to life for your family.  Many are familiar and many are not, but I don't feel the need to skip over a single one! Read more about Susie and her fellow musicians and vocalists...

I am also a big fan of the cover artwork on each of the CD's. Irene Hardwicke Olivieri has created the original artwork for all of the Rock Me Baby Records' Children's CDs. Each CD contains several innovative, detailed and beautifully designed works of art that contribute to the overall beauty of the CD, not to mention her gorgeous nephew on the cover of Sleepy Eyes!

To learn more about Rock Me Baby Records, the awards these CD's continue to reel in and about Susie Tallman herself, click here...

Smart Moms Know Smart Mom Jewelry!

Smartmom One of the coolest mommy gadgets to hit the market isn't just practical for mom and baby, but it looks great, too!  Smart Mom Jewelry has developed the ultimate "Mom Accessory" with a line of Teething Bling bangle bracelets and pendant necklaces.  Made from the same, safe & flexible teething material as many of baby's teething toys, but in fashionable colors to mix and match with Mommy's wardrobe.  All products are 100% lead-free, non-toxic, phthalate-free, and pendants come with a break-away clasp.  I have the Jade bracelet and pendant and I've hardly taken off my Teething Bling  since it arrived in the mail!  My mother even wants one for herself because of the flexible material that makes it easier to wear than most bangle bracelets out there.  Emme loves to clutch the Teething Bling necklace while she nurses and unlike most of my jewelry, I don't cringe when she gives it a tug, knowing the soft silky cord won't break and the pendant is safe for her to chew on.

I had hoped to photograph myself, but being a busy new mom and being the one who takes most of the photos around here, I never managed to snap a pic of Emme and myself with our Teething Bling...but, here are some pics from the Smart Mom Jewelry website to give you an idea of how great you're going to look when you hit the next Gymboree Class or Mommy's Day Out lunch date in your Teething Bling!

Shop the Zutano Sale!

Zutanosale_3

I just received word that the Summer Sale is on at the Zutano Boutique!  They carry all the cutie-patootie Zutano collectible items, size 12 months and up.   The sale reminds that I've captured some darling pics recently of my baby girl, Emme, sporting some of our favorite Zutano finds!

Rice Cereal--The Breakfast of Champions!Breakfastofchampions

My big strong girl took her first "breakfast" of
organic, whole grain rice cereal, just this morning!
We picked out her darling little cotton knit Zutano
Baby Basics bib for the occasion and couldn't be happier!  The bibs are soft cotton knit and back in a thin layer of cotton terry.  Just like another layer of clothing, rather than something bulky and awkward to distract Emme from the task at hand.  I'm going to pick up a few more of these bibs as they are a perfect fit for younger and older babies (her 18 month old cousin loves his) and absorb all those messy cereal dribbles quite nicely! Find where to pick up a bib of your own in the find a retailer section of www.zutano.com!

Another Zutano Favorite of ours is Emme's Garden Bunny Cozies Pullover.  The Pullovers are adorable embroidered tops made from Zutano's signature cotton sherpa fleece.  It keeps Emme warm and "cozy" and is just so darn cute you want to give her a little squeeze!  Take a look and see the other Cozies Pullover options at www.Zutano.com!  Oh, and Emme is also sporting a Zutano Baby Basics hat and cotton knit receiving blanket.  This is one of my favorite blankets I have for the warmer weather.  It is so soft and just 2 layers of cotton knit interlock, so I use it to cover Emme in her co-sleeper every night to keep her just warm enough not cause her to overheat...

Diapees & Wipees - A Blow Out Saver

Imagelogo

If you visit the Diapees and Wipees website, you'll see their most recent press clip from D Magazine, "Dallas Moms will snap these up faster than lipstick at Neiman Marcus."

Point made.  The fantastic thing about Diapees and Wipees is they are soooooo practical and super cute, too!  They carry a full selection of very fashionable patterns.  This past Sunday, Father's Day, we had the perfect occasion to use our own Diapees and Wipees....a major baby blow-out...right at the restaurant table!

Hotdot
It was a quick grab into my Jilly K diaper bag and off to the changing...ummm...restroom.  Whew.

We first met Christina, owner & inventor of Diapees & Wipees, at the Golden Globes Baby Boom Boom Room Gifting Suite; where celebrities were going crazy for Diapees & Wipees, grabbing up one of their own!  A mother of 3 children, read more about her story here.

Father's Day - Super Dad Bags

There's one sure fire way to get daddy involved in diapers......his own hip diaper bag.  Just in time for father's day, here are two of our favorites:

1) Diaper Dude diaper bags hit the basics with camo styles, strong solid colors and hip graphics....at a great price.

Diaperdudespot

2)  Timi and Leslie diaper bags PLAY BALL, with unique high quality leather bags for your daddy sports hero.  Our favorite is the baseball "babe ruth'" baby bag.

Timileslie

A little father's day history thanks to wikipedia, "In the United States, the first modern Father's Day celebration was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was first celebrated as a church service at Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South, now known as Central United Methodist Church. Grace Golden Clayton, who is believed to have suggested the service to the pastor, is believed to have been inspired to celebrate fathers after the deadly mine explosion in nearby Monongah the prior December. This explosion killed 361 men, many of them fathers and recent immigrants to the United States from Italy. Another possible inspiration for the service was Mother's Day, which had recently been celebrated for the first time in Grafton, West Virginia, a town about 15 miles away. Fathers day originates as far back as 1839 in celebration of the fathers that went to war in the Battle of Iransop in which 123 fathers lost their lives defending the outpost......read more."

Another great Father's Day Gift resource we just came across is Men's Jewelry at My Jewelry Box.  This online store has a fantastic selection of rings, bracelets, cufflinks and the like for the favorite father in your life.  We hear that Father's Day is s big time of year for Men's Jewelry and know that the dads we know would be honored by such a classy and timeless gift for Father's Day!  Check out My Jewelry Box for convenient Father's Day Shopping!

Playin' Dress Up!

In honor of Emme's 2 month birthday today, we played a little "dress up" and put on some of our very favorite Baby Fashion Finds from Polka Dot Whale!  Here she is, in all her girly girl glory:)

Emme2monthsgreetingEmme is resting on the Raspberry Dot Velour Luxury Baby Blanket by My Blankee, Inc.  My Blankee is a Los Angeles-based company started by a dad who wanted to design the perfect blanket for his own baby boy, Luca.  We love them & so do our customers!

Up top, you'll find the adorable Sugar & Spice Concert Tee by Crib Rock Couture.  A celebrity favorite well known in Hollywood, Crib Rock is one of those affordable luxuries you can treat your own little celebrity baby to!

And, to top off the ultimate dress up ensemble for baby, is the Petite Pirouette line of Ballerina Tutus!  Emme is wearing the latte tu-tu with white rose & ribbon.  These tutus are made from yards of tulle and can be fluffed endlessly.  The layers are filled with silk rose petals!  I'd wear one myself if it came in my size.  Polka Dot Whale has the tu-tus for babies and toddlers in several colors, with another shipment coming in early summer, so keep your eyes peeled if you're holding out!

Find them all at www.PolkaDotWhale.com today!

So, in the absence of cake (not quite there yet), we celebrate the 2 month birthday milestone with absolutely delicious clothes:)  Bon Apetit!

Gifts for Mother's Day

Are you ready for Mother’s Day?

We went to the Wikipedia and found these interesting notes on Mother’s Day?

“Mother's Day is a strange time of year for mail in many countries. In 1973, mail delivery through the U.S. Postal Service was delayed for eight days because of the amount of mail. Telephone networks are also at their busiest on Mother's Day. Mother's Day is the number one holiday for flowers purchased throughout the year (note Valentines day, wow!)

Zutano--Clothes Unique As Your Baby!

Zutanologo_4I've been having a blast dressing Baby Emme in a brand new wardrobe from Zutano.  The past few years I'd seen Zutano in little baby boutiques and online.  I loved the wild prints and how everything seems to mix and match, but was a little overwhelmed with the choices when considering carrying the line at Polka Dot Whale.  Still no Zutano at Polka Dot Whale, but there are tons of adorable boutiques carrying Zutano across the country and it really is one to check out!  If you've got a little one running around the house, are looking to outfit your grandchild or searching for unique clothing for a baby shower or birthday gift, Zutano is just the thing.  It really is worth the agonizing over which prints and solids to choose...as long as you choose a selection that can all mix and match.  That is the true beauty of a Zutano baby wardrobe, after all!

Now that I'm running around town with Emme dressed up in Zutano duds, I really understand the powerPinkvelour3_2  of the brand.  We've literally stopped stroller traffic with the vibrant colors, mix and match combinations, whimsical prints, and and fun body styles.  Unlike any other baby clothing brand I've encountered, Zutano clothes are cut very generously, with 0-6 months fitting rather roomy on my 13-14 pounder:)  The funny thing is that no matter how roomy, the clothing still fits.  Emme looks ridiculous in any of her other "roomy" clothing, but the Zutano leggings, tees, dresses, and jackets seem to work just right and lucky for us, are going to work just right for quite some time...no new Mommy will complain about that!

Redknit2Emme headed out for a quick trip to Babies R Us and little lunch at Panda Express on Monday...

Redknit1_3

All dressed up in the new Z-Love black and white print short-sleeve dress with black candy stripe leggings and solid red jacket.   We are "Z-loving" how the leggings make a warm weather dress work on a chillier day and keep those pale legs under wraps 'til the summer sun starts shining:)  We love how light and airy the Baby Basic knits are--not to mention that they come out beautifully in the wash!

  Pinkvelour2_2

Here she is on Tuesday, picking up groceries and hitting the warehouse to help her Mama get some  work done...

Emme is sporting the Fairground Stripes hat and leggings with the Gum Drops Blanket (backed in Fairground Stripe).  The long-sleeve dress in Fushcia Velure.  The Velure Collection is super soft and snuggly for the cooler months and just right anytime of year when mixed and matched with the lightweight Baby Basics knitwear.

Happy about Hair Clips!

Madisonroomlogo We can't get enough of cutie-patootie hair clippies since our baby girl was born with a good amount of silky soft brown hair!  Who'd have thought when mommy and daddy spent the majority of their own infancies completely bald???  One of our favorite makers of the girly hair clips that Baby Emme wears are handmade by Cynthia Lee of Madison's Room.  Cynthia is mom to 2 adorable little girls of her own, who've inspired her to create the adorable hair accessories for babies, infants, toddlers, and big girls found at Madison's room.  To find a retailer online or near you, visit Madison's Room today!

Cloud B Sleep Sheep On the Go - Our Super Hero

The award winning Sleep Sheep On the Go from Cloud B has become our mini super hero.....and has made our Must Have list.  It may work a little differently for everyone, but here are its super hero powers for us:

  • It is sleek and small, able to be mobile at a moment's notice.  It can dangle from a car seat with included Velcro strap (carseat pictured with the ultra soft My Blankee car seat cover) or the sheep on the go can jump into or over your co-sleeper in a single bound.    And, we always remember to grab it and go by including it in our Posh Baby diaper bag.

    Sleepsheeponthego
  • The sleep sheep casts its baby sleep spell with an intelligent timer that plays just long enough to be effective (a 23 or 45 minute setting option) while also saving the battery for many, many, many more plays.

            Cloud_b_mini_on_the_go_sleep_sheep

  • Then there are the sleep sheep sounds...which slowly sooth baby into a gentle sleep.....

Our 3 week old daughter has suddenly discovered its magical sounds.   At first she didn't know what the sheep was doing (obviously, right?)  It would usually take 5 minutes or so and then maybe it would work.  But after several times of repeating the Sleep Sheep....it soon became so effective that it takes less than a minute for its powers to work.

Sleep_sheep

Her favorite magical sound  is the ocean waves (there are also the sounds of rain, whales and a running stream).  As soon as we turn the sleep sheep on, the ocean waves sound comes crashing up onto the sand and then recedes, only to repeat again....it takes 15 seconds now, when our daughter realizes that the spell has been cast.   She quickly goes into the "sleep zone"...settling and then, yes, sleeping!

Funny enough; when we use it at night.....we all are now cast under a spell...with the waves enchanting us all to go to sleep!

Cloudbminisleepsheep

We are now the proud owners of two mini sleep sheep for on-the-go and out-and-about.  We have also bought the sleep sheep's full-size big brother for the bedroom:)

Sweet dreams....

You're French, Aren't You?

Frenchlogo Kathleen Panak has created a darling new line of baby onesies for her company, The French Chihuahua.  Could the name be any cuter?  Inspired by her French mother, raised in Milwaukee, WI, and the proud owner of 2 precious chihuahuas, Baby and ZsuZsu, Kathleen's designs are really whimsical and fun.  She eagerly states, "My hope is to offer items that have a Touch of French, a Pinch of Vintage, a Dash of Eccentricity, and always a lot of fun which in the end equals a unique product for you."  Well...I go for anything French and Vintage, don't you?

Frenchchihuahua_2 Our baby Emme is the proud owner of the "Reine des Abeilles", or Queen Bee, design.  Other designs for girls include the 'Papillion Social' or Social Butterfly, and 'La Jolie Princesse' or Little Princess.  Designs for boys include 'Diablotin' which means Little Devil, and 'Prince Charmant' for Prince Charming. These onesies are tagless (babies hate tags) and are made from very high quality cotton, with darling puffed sleeves and ruffled trim on the girl designs.  Really nice touches for the basic black or white onesie!

VERY reasonably priced at just $16.50, a French Chihuahua onesie or tee makes a darling gift for your own baby or a lucky gift recipient.  Check our their selection today!

What to Buy Baby

Today we spotted on Yahoo their featured story “What to Buy Baby”. We were happy to see that the link went straight to a Yahoo “Answers” blog that allows people to chime in and offer advice. How cool! There are dozens of new mothers that offer their ideas of what you need to get, with some fun stuff thrown in.

Featuredonyahoo_1

Here is the question post with a couple of the answer posts. We’ve added some links to the mentioned items. We’ll follow up next week with a series on some of our favorite forums and Mommy/Daddy powered blogs.

Question: What are the essentials I need to buy for a newborn baby (first time mommy)?

Hi, could any experienced parents please help me to decide what to buy in preparation for our new baby. I have looked at the 'what to expect in your first year' and its quite useful. However I would appreciate any advice on clothing, etc, anything you found essential or useful. Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen By Voters

Don't buy too much 0-3 months stuff. My daughter is only 6 weeks and is in 3-6 already so we had to give away alot of stuff.
Dont buy more than 1 pack of newborn diapers either...get lots of 1 and 2 sizes if your stocking up.
Get lots of onesies, socks, hats and sleepers. Lots of burp clothes, recieving blankets and pacifiers (if your going to use them). Deffinatly get a swing and bouncy and even a floor playmat.
Dont go for high priced clothes because they seriously outgrow them very quick. I have many outfits my kids only wore once (if that) that people paid alot of money for. Dont buy too much white...it will get ruined. Thats all I can think of for now.

More Answers:

I too am a first time mommy. You will need:
Lots of onesies (short & long sleeve), T-shirts, socks/booties.
I found that he grew WAY too fast to be spending too much $$$ on all the cutesy clothes. Now that he is 5 months, we wear the cool stuff now.
Diapers
Wipes
Pacifiers (optional)
Bottles - LOTS
Bottle brush cleaner
Baby lotion, soap
Vaseline
Burp cloths
Wash cloths
Receiving blankets - LOTS
Bedding for crib
Booger Sucker
Baby nail clippers

Another Answer:

You will want a bulb aspirator (the booger sucker) my hospital gave me the one they used on both of my kids for free

also only get one package of newborn diapers, get size 1-2 after that

only need a few 0-3 months clothes, 3-6 months is what you will use the most, I used a lot of 6-9 month with my daughter

baby nail clippers
a lot of bottles
bottle brush
recv blankets
a lot of socks, get these big too, the dryer really does eat socks
onesies are wonderful
I hated the gowns myself
slepers are convenient
depending on the duedate and the weather in your area that time you will want to get things to make sure the baby is at a comfort temerature. Experts recommend one layer more then you but if the baby is sweating take a little off
pacifiers/binkys (if you are going to use them)
A lot of babywipes (I always used unscented to make sure that they didn't rash baby)
A diaper rash cream containing zinc-oxide, or vaseline after changes will help pervent diaper rash
laundry detegent just for the baby, I used All unsccented for my newborns, this keeps them from having so many reactions, anything that says it is additive free/scent free etc
If you are breastfeeding you must get boxes or nursing pads. There was a brand Lansinoh (see ini below) those were the best ever had, myister too
also if nursing a breast pump (do not pump out too much when milk is first coming in, it will hurt to be so full but your body is trying to determine how much it needs to feed the baby, also drinka lot of water while nursing)
Babywash, something safe and hypoallergenic (buy as much hypoallergenics produts as you can)
Most people recommend scratch mittens for their hands (a lot of babies will scratch their faces up with all their uncontolled movement)I always used a clean pair of their socks, same idea
a baby swing
a pillow for you if you are nursing, Boppy pillows are nice also known as infant support cushions
bibs

I loved a rocking chair for them, I had a gliding one, I would sit there with the baby while nursing or when baby was fusy and just sing ang glide for what seemed hours
If using a crib spare crib sheets, if using a bassinet spare sheets as well (prepare for lots of accidents and spitup)
a bather for the tub, something that fits into the tub so that they aren't in a full tub of water, for my brand newborns I loved the old kitchen sink way (don't forget baby soft washclothes in the baby aisle)
playpen/playards are convenient as well
I used a stroller a lot, helped me to calm the baby (use sunblock on them or cover them well) as well as loose my baby weight, some even come with the infant carrier (carseat)
breast cream
you just had a baby, you're going to need maxi pads
youwant some buton down shirts or something equally easy to nurse when it isn't convenient to you
nursing bra (normally safe buying one size bigger then your current bra you need oom for swollen milk filled breasts and nursing pads)
Tylenol

Bambini Carini!

Bambinicarinilogo Bambini Carini is my new favorite in luxe baby fashion accessories!  Lucky for me, owner & designer, Rena, contacted me recently to let me know about her up and coming line.  I just had to blog about Bambini Carini.  Gorgeous, classicly elegant fabric accent baby basics that make Mommies-to-Be (like me) melt!  From classic toile prints to chocolate polkadots, there is a style to suit every taste and decor.

Our very own baby, Emme, will be wearing her brand new Pink and Chocolate Polka Dot Bath Pinkpolkabathsack Sack after her very first bath at home--watch for a photo in the month or so to come!  A truly innovative design, the hooded bath sack is crafted from the softest white cotton terrycloth and the polka dot cuffs even turn down to keep babies hands warm.  The perfect alternative to those silly baby bath robes that never fit right and leave baby's feet dangling!

Among the other darling favorites from Bambini Carini are the luxe bibs and burpies.  The bib closure is a pearly snap--so cute--and the burps feature a row of pink and chocolate pom-pom trim. PinkpolkaburpDon't get me started on their gorgeous baby blankets--Two contrasting fabrics and ribbon trim adorn the front of each blanket, backed with oatmeal-colored cable knit (just like my favorite Ralph Lauren sweater!)  Pinkpolkabib To top off the accessories collection, Bambini Carini, has created a line of toddler size loungewear.  Just like Mommie's favorite pajamas, in pint-size.  I can't wait for Emme to grow into her polka dot pair!

Keep your eyes peeled for Bambini Carini at Polka Dot Whale this Spring!

One of Our Favorite Things...Solana Babywear!

Solanalogo With just 6 weeks to go until our baby girl is due to arrive, we are more than excited to put our gorgeous Solana Babywear swaddling wrap to use.  Made especially for Solana Babywear in New Zealand, these swaddling wraps are very generously sized for the perfect swaddle as taught by Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby On The Block method.  Thumb_ca0xy7sh We love this method of infant soothing techniques and have been diligently practicing the "DUDU" wrap swaddle technique for weeks now!  For this secure swaddle, not just any blanket will do.  Solana Babywear uses a lovely lightweight gauzy fabric so that baby will not overheat and sizes the wrap just right.

Thumb_ashley20full20pink We'll be wrapping our baby girl in the Ashley Solana Swaddle Wrap--gauzy white eyelet with pink satin trim...did I mention the matching gift bag this wrap arrives in?  Too cute!  Wraps come in a variety of colors, patterns and styles for ever taste & budget, ranging from just $24.99 up to $39.99

As a children's social worker, the prevention of SIDS is near and dear to my own heart and is at the core of Solana Babywear's mission as a business.  They aim to educate parents about safe infant sleep, which is the why swaddling young babies in thin, lightweight, cotton wraps is essential.

What a Nursing Mama Needs!

Nursingmom100906i This week at Polka Dot Whale we're featuring Nursing Mom Necessities.  We've seen this product category grow so much by popular demand from our customers.  With more new moms choosing to breastfeed, items like nursing covers aren't just for show, they are a MUST-HAVE for the new mom!  We've got both Bebe Au Lait and Milk Dudz nursing covers and can hardly keep any of the styles in stock.  I was really excited to find out yesterday that Bebe Au Lait is bringing back 4 styles that we thought were discontinued.  We still receive lots of requests for these styles and as of next week, we'll be able to fulfill those special requests!  Our good friend Brenna just showed us a photo of she and her good friend using their Bebe Au Lait nursing covers together--those are some lucky babies!  Brenna was so happy with the Bebe Au Lait we gave her when her daughter Ellis was born that she gives one to each of her expecting friends.

Elton & I recently visited my best friend, Laura, who gave birth to her precious little Anabelle August 29th and found that the two of them are IN LOVE with the Chenille Nursing Pillow from Ozark Mountain Kids!!  Pinknursingpillow The pillow is quite a bit thicker than the mass market nursing pillow and really allows you to shape it to your body.  Laura just raved about it!  Anabelle loves to nurse while lying on her Ozark Mountain Kids pillow and I liked using it to hold and snuggle her while she napped!  If you're thinking of buying one as a gift for a new mom, don't forget the matching Binky Bunny from the same maker, a small family-run business in Arkansas! Who doesn't love ice cream?

I know Natalie's going to post shortly on a neat experience we had with a dear friend.  I want to sneak this post in before:).

Icecream I was helping organize our warehouse the other day and was reminded how cool (or should I say warm) Neopolita blanket/hat sets are!!  As an expecting dad, I fell in love with these all over again.  My favorite is Orange Sherbet.  I love orange and I'm not too crazy about ice cream.....which I guess is the answer to the question, "Who doesn't love ice cream?".

Please post comments.  We'd like to know which Neopolita "flavor" is your favorite and why?  Oh, and look for that post about our friend's Laura's VERY COOL experience with Neopolita:)
