About Me

My name is Natalie Stewart Graham. I live and work in Southern California. Pictured is myself and my brand new baby girl, Emmeline. She was born in March 2007 and inspires us everyday to get excited about the "baby business"!

I LOVE pets & have a little yorkie, Ellie, and big orange cat, Si.

My background is in psychology and social work. I have an MSW and worked in public child welfare for a few years before starting my own online baby boutique and the Baby Fashion Blog in 2005. My husband and I have dreamed of owning our own business and are now putting my shopping skills and fashion sense to work with our boutique, www.PolkaDotWhale.com! If I weren't doing what I'm doing right now or being a social worker, I'd be a make-up artist, baker, paper crafter, party planner or birth doula. Wish I'd tried out for the Apprentice Martha Stewart as I can't get enough of all things beautiful, stylish, tasty and decorative!

When I'm not busy with Polka Dot Whale, I'm searching the web and magazines for fun and exciting baby fashion info and women's fashion and style info and products. More recently, my own pregnancy and the birth of my baby girl inspired me to learn more about childbirth and attachment parenting, especially "natural parenting." I now spend a lot of my free time snuggling with my baby girl and tending to her every need;)

You'll notice a mix of features on this blog as my husband and I take turns posting about baby fashion finds, celebrtiy babies, online business, artsy-fartsy stuff, family businesses, and natural parenting.

For those who are concerned I've forgotten my social work roots...I've carried my love for children and families and respect for women into my business and my blog! I go out of way to find women and parents who just happen to be the hottest designers in the baby industry. Many work from home and are fulfilling their dreams of economic independence or caring for their children at home. Let us know if you know anyone who fits the bill & you think I should know about!

Because we are all about babies at Polka Dot Whale, we've chosen to support Project Cuddle, an organization designed to help pregnant women in crisis find safe alternatives to abandoning their babies. We donate a small portion of our profits to Project Cuddle and sell a Project Cuddle Bear with which 100% of the purchase price goes to Project Cuddle. They run a hotline and have put together a cool video that teaches high school students about safely surrendered baby laws. Check out their site at www.ProjectCuddle.org. Project Cuddle is not affiliated with any religious or political organization. Their only agenda is to keep babies from being abandoned after their birth and we love them for it!
